Slate is a natural stone formed of compressed layers of sediments formed under the ocean. Clay, sedimentary rock shale and sometimes quartz make up this material and the Earthy colors that it comes in provide a natural look that is great for many areas. A honed finish gives slate a smooth texture that is beautiful in vanities and with the right maintenance as a kitchen counter.
